Nationwide Insurance
Nationwide got its start in 1925 when the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation decided
that the auto insurance companies in existence at that time charged too much
for their policies. In 1928, the Ohio Farm Bureau Mutual Automobile Company, as
Nationwide was then known, expanded by starting to sell automobile insurance
policies in other states. During the 1930’s, the Company added fire and life
insurance to its line. In 1955, the Mutual Automobile Company changed its name
to Nationwide, as the Company continued to grow. Today, Nationwide, still
headquartered in Ohio, is a Fortune 100 company with more than 16 million
policies protecting customers and over 30,000 employees.
