American Honda Finance
American Honda Finance Corporation (AHFC), headed by Yuji Takahashi, is a wholly
owned subsidiary of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., a Japanese corporation that is a
worldwide manufacturer and distributor of motor vehicles and power equipment.
Driving American Honda Finance's success is the fact that some 90% of the
Japanese automaker's profits generated in North America.
AHFC Financial Services
AHFC provides financial services to consumers of Honda and Acura automobiles,
sport utility vehicles and minivans, Honda and Acura parts and accessories,
Honda motorcycles and power equipment.
Fully devoted to their customers
The financing is in the form of retail installment sales contracts and leases,
depending on the product and the needs of the particular customer. Leases
offered through Honda Lease Trust (an affiliate) for new/used Honda and Acura
motor vehicles. Another affiliate, American Honda Service Contract Corporation,
administers the sale of vehicle service contracts throughout the United States.
History of the company
AHFC commenced operations in July 1980 with wholesale financing on a nationwide
basis in the US to authorized Honda motorcycle dealers. In 1983, AHFC offered
wholesale financing for Honda power equipment and in 1986, for Honda and Acura
motor vehicles.
In June 1985, AHFC commenced retail financing with pilot programs for Honda
motorcycles and Honda power equipment in California and Florida and in May 1986
for Honda and Acura motor vehicles in California. In April 1990, AHFC offered
retail leasing for Honda and Acura motor vehicles in California.
Since fiscal year 1992, retail financing and leasing of vehicles constitute the
largest segment of the business.
AHFC has special financing schemes for would-be graduates, which are flexible
and competitive. Special packages are also available on many new Honda or Honda
Certified Used Cars or new Acura or Acura Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles.
AHFC are constantly updating lease and traditional financing specials for new/
certified used vehicles.
